“Grey Is The New Black”

The pop singer Rihanna just announced via Twitter that “grey is the new black” after posting a photo of herself with her newly-dyed silver locks. Although I must say that she looks stunning, check out the pic here and let’s take a look at some original silver-haired style icons for some true grey inspiration. If you are thinking about going grey yourself, check out Jenny’s video confessional below.

Ari I gave up colouring my hair about 3 years ago after about 2 decades of attempting to cover up the grey (I'm 53). I'm white but don't care. When I go to the hairdressers other clients tell my hairdresser they want it my colour. When she's says it natural they are so jealous.
These ladies look fabulous and I'm attempting to follow their style. A good cut, great clothes and attitude keep people looking wise, happy and sparky and others envious

  • Thank you for celebrating gray! I stopped dying my hair in my 40s (54 now), when I couldn't face continuing to touch up the roots by putting chemicals on my head every few weeks. I don't always love seeing someone who looks so like my grandmother in the mirror, but I'd rather celebrate who I am at this age than fight it. So, no regrets on going gray. It feels right.

  • What a fabulous selection of grey haired ladies. Whoever Rhianna is I think she got the idea from you Ari. Grey has been the new black for ages. I love my grey hair and it is long like Jennys'. It looks wonderful with make up, especially the grey based eye shadows and brow pencils.

  • All of these ladies look great. Celebrating that beautiful shade of grey is the best thing you can do for your hairs health!

I stopped coloring my hair about 4 years ago… maybe three. My hair dresser was horrified. I'd given up chemicals in my home for cleaning, I eat organic and I realized that I was living my life as a lie by using chemicals on my head and hair. I've had nothing but compliments since going natural and I have a sense of freedom going natural. My hair is not very gray at 61. I'm now envious of lovely gray hair and white hair… but I think I'll be happy with who I am and let it go at that.

  • their gorgeousness comes out of a confidence! they all look fab <3

I am 37, going silver at a rapid rate, and may I say I've never had an unhappy moment about this? I colour my hair now but every month I check in with my stylist regarding my silver progress. I can't wait to go au naturel; I've wanted Emmylou Harris' hair since I was 14!

  • These ladies look AMAZING!

  • It is very good inspiration.I'll think about tomorrow…

  • All the ladies look wonderful. They truly show what it means to take fashion risk, be your own individual and never follow the herd. Great content and inspiration on your blog. Keep it coming !!

For my 50th birthday I gave myself freedom from 20 yrs of servitude my hair. Six plus years later it is long again and I am so glad I did it! I often get compliments… quite a few men I have passed on the street or in stores have even told me "don't ever color your hair." The freeing process was not fun in the least, but it was worth it!

  • I stopped coloring my hair 14 months ago, (at age 45) and have just a little bit of treated hair left on my tips. I started going grey in my 20's and have been coloring my hair for over 20 years. It has been such a transformative process, to embrace my natural beauty and stop hiding my authentic self! I've had nothing but compliments about my beautiful silver hair and the illuminating effect it has on my skin. Love it, love it, love it!! Thank-you for encouraging other women to buck convention by posting these inspirational style mavens!
