An Afternoon With Bel Kaufman

Interview by Erika Wilder Photos by Ari Seth Cohen
  • What a wonderful women she is and what a great time you must have had.

  • I thought it was funny that you said you didn't know many women that felt young inside. I asked my than 80+ year old mother how old she felt and she said 27! I can totally relate! I am 52 and often get a shock looking in the mirror, I feel as though I will be forever 30. A year when I came into my own as a person after going through some tough times, leaving an unfulfilling job, and going to graduate school with students 8 years younger than myself. What a great age. I love being my age. I ride horses, live on a farm and keep pretty active. I love this blog. It is so inspiring! Yeah for the Advance Style Ladies. I always recommend your blog to other women no matter their age. We can always learn something from the confidence and style of these women!

  • What an inspiration! Great style never gets old! Thanks for sharing.

    Love, Jamie Herzlinger

  • I love Bel! Her answers to the questions are priceless, and I love her recitation of Prufrock. I hope I remember that poem as well as she, if I'm lucky enough to make it to 101!

  • Bravo Erika! I was riveted! Up the Downstair case. Darn, now I HAVE to go re-read that. I remember it as delcious but I read it when I was about 15 so I think it deserves a re-read now. Don't you think?

  • Wow, what an amazing woman. Must be inspiring to meet someone like her.

  • I admire you, Erika! My mother thinks the same way about ageing!

  • She is an inspiration and oh so beautiful in her mind and her body. I love those glasses and the red finger nails. Her recitation was lovely.

  • So inspiring and lovely. If I live to be 102 it will that I more than half my life yet to live. What a wonderful thought being that I have so many things that I want to do writing being the start.

  • So inspiring and lovely. If I live to be 102, it will mean that I have over half my life to live. What a wonderful thought being that I have so many things I want to do, writing the first.

  • What a wonderful interview and a wonderful woman!

  • an awesome lady!!!

  • Wonderful woman !
New post up on my blog, check it out :

  • Ari, you are increasing the longevity of a population. To know that a woman such as Bel exists in all of her radiance and vitality, we that are younger can see that aging is not to be dreaded, but to be embraced. In my opinion, to be aware of this increases self acceptance, which then enhances health, which then adds years to our lives. We have something to look forward to!
