Advanced Style New Year’s Resolutions

Life is very
interesting if you live it fully aware. There is no such thing as boredom, it
needs to be still sometimes.

 I have been
celebrating the new year since the year 1923. The year I was born. Every year
has been an amazing year to be alive. I suspect 2016 will also be a wonderful
year to be alive. I look forward with thrilling anticipation, love and joy.
Just BEING and accepting and welcoming each and every challenge in this coming
year.  Joy to the world and 2016! – Phyllis Sues phyllissues.com
My resolution for
the New Year is one that I have been striving to achieve each new year for the
last many decades. In many traditions;
from the Cabbala, to mystical Christianity there is a belief that how we behave
and go about the first 12 days of the new year is a metaphor for the next 12
months. In other words the 1st day of the year determines the first month, the
second day, the second month and so on. To ensure a bright start we should set
intentions, record only positive, luminous thoughts, feelings and actions. I am
best able to do that alone and in silence, not in the midst of a lot of inconsequential
chatter. Everyone has the opportunity to make such a choice, to withdraw for a
part of each day into the private chamber within.
The year that we call
NEW is not completely separate from the old. IN FACT ITS ALREADY old, because
we human beings are old in our ways of thinking, feelings and habits.
If we intend to
discard some of the weight of the past, and fill the vessel of the heart and
mind with high ideals, the mind will obey, and also satisfy the soul that
yearns for new values and desires.
May we all be
blessed in 2016

On Dressing Age Appropriate

Many people feel that women of a certain age shouldn’t dress up, express themselves, wear bright colors, and even show a little skin. From my experience, the ladies I feature, feel more free to express themselves as they have gotten older. They care less about what other people think, and rely more on their own instinct. I asked a few of my favorite ladies how they feel about dressing “age appropriate”, what an older woman should never wear, and if one can dress sexy as they age. Read their responses below and please comment with your own opinions.

Beatrix Ost- Age appropriate I would say is silly, but please look in the mirror.Do not populate airports , places of sightseeing ,churches, any of such in foreign countries, wearing shorts like a teen.Sexy is in the eye of the beholder–be sparse with showing your flesh.

Zelda Kaplan- I think the important thing is to try to maintain one’s figure, so that the cloth lies properly on the body. I think one’s figure is more important than one’s age. I don’t believe an older person should wear short shorts, but whatever they feel good in works for me.

Mary- I think that saying women can’t wear color at a certain age says step back and die. Most important is to develop a sense of objectivity. I go by an instant reaction–if it’s negative that I don’t do it. Obviously you shouldn’t wear super short skirts. You don’t want to look like a crazy old lady.In short avoid those baby jane moments.Rita Hammer- If you look in the mirror and it offends the eye then don’t do it. I don’t think women of a certain age should wear hot-pants or miniskirts, but they can wear skirts an inch or two above the knee. That can look very elegant. It’s up to the woman to know what’s she’s doing and see if it feels right. It’s personal taste.

Save Face, Put a Hat On!

One of the tips we always seek from our friends on Advanced Style is:

How do you stay feeling young and vibrant?

What’s the #1 answer, you might ask…

“Wear a hat, and protect your skin from direct sunlight.”

Well, the sun is out and summer is officially here, so it’s time to dig out your favorite hat or go hunting for a new (or thrifted & gifted one)…. The sun is stronger than ever and we have to protect our precious skin, no matter what our age.

Some of you (such as myself) don’t like to fuss with hat-hair, and avoid the hat look altogether. If you are one of these types, try a glamorous parasol or scarf like Old-Hollywood-Style Jenny.

Feel free to send us your inspired photos, and remember:
Just because your face is shaded by a hat, doesn’t mean you can stop wearing sunscreen.
Always wear sunscreen, and wear white… there’s a reason it’s considered a “summer color”.
